Terms of use
Last updated 13 October 2026
spotcheck is a free tool that checks aviation photos for common technical issues (dust, centering, level, clipping, halos and similar) before you submit them somewhere. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Guidance, not a verdict
The checks are automated estimates. They can be wrong: they can miss problems, flag problems that are not there, and outline the wrong thing. Passing every check does not mean a photo will be accepted anywhere, and failing one does not mean it will be rejected. Always judge your photo yourself.
spotcheck is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any photo-sharing site or its screeners, and its expectation levels are its own approximations, not any site's rules.
Your photos
Your photos are analysed in your browser and are not uploaded to spotcheck or anyone else. You keep all rights to them. See Privacy below for the little that does leave your device.
No warranty
spotcheck is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and availability. It may be changed, interrupted or discontinued at any time without notice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, devpitot is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of spotcheck or reliance on its results, including rejected or accepted submissions, edits made to your photos, lost time or opportunities, lost data, or problems with your device or browser. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory law.
Fair use
Do not try to disrupt the site, overload it, or use it in a way that breaks the law. The site's code, design and text belong to devpitot.
Third-party components
To find the aircraft, spotcheck uses open-source AI models (D-FINE for detection, SlimSAM for outlining) and libraries (Transformers.js, ONNX Runtime), each under its own licence. The models are downloaded from Hugging Face, whose own terms and privacy policy apply to that download.
Privacy
- No accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no ads, no tracking.
- Photos stay in your browser. They are never uploaded.
- Your browser stores your chosen expectation level, and keeps the AI models in its cache so they are not downloaded again. You can clear both through your browser's site data settings.
- The first time you run a check, your browser downloads the models from Hugging Face, which sees your IP address as with any download.
- The server that hosts spotcheck keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for a limited time, only to keep the site running and secure.
Changes
These terms may be updated; the date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use spotcheck after a change means you accept the updated terms.
